Laura Pence, ACS Congressional Science and Technology Policy fellow

Laura Pence, CouncilorI'm spending this year as an ACS Congressional Science and Technology Policy fellow. The ACS is part of a larger AAAS program that provides PhD scientists and engineers to work in the Senate and Congressional Personal office or Committee offices. This year, I'm working in the office of Senator Michael Bennet from Colorado on energy and environmental issues. As I often explain it, when we are trained as scientists, we get told to write papers so the science can speak for itself. In politics, someone needs to speak for the science. So I'll learn the political process from the inside, and I'll get to contribute my research and scientific expertise in return.

The program is run by the ACS CCPA committee (Committee on Chemists and Public Affairs), and the contact is Caroline Trupp-Gil, C_Trupp@acs.org
