Introduction

The Committee on Computing in Chemical Education seeks to support and encourage the development, implementation, and assessment of computing technologies in Chemical Education. We support topical symposia and workshops at ACS meetings, oversee online conferences in the Chemical Sciences,  ConfChems , and Online Chemistry Classes (OLCCs).

Information Since Last Report
  • New chair succession plan enacted: Past chair, Chair, Chair-elect; 1-year rotations for each, ensuring 3 people in leadership at a time.
  • Dr. Derek Behmke (Virginia Commonwealth University) is the new chair elect, and will start his term January 2027.
  • We are co-organizing a session to be held at the 2026 BCCE meeting in Madison, WI.
  • We have set up a nanoHub to host OLCCs (Coordinator: Bob Belford)
  • The new OLCC on Data Chemistry and Machine Learning was offered in Fall 2025 academic semester. (Coordinator: Robert Belford)
  • We are collaborating with MolSSI to develop short courses / symposia related to computing in Chemical Education (Coordinator: Bonnie Hall)
  • We are working on our operations manual.
Future Plans
  • Monthly virtual meetings are planned.
  • The operations manual for CCCE should be completed this year (2026)
