  • 1. Purpose

The International Activities Committee (IAC) of the Division of Chemical Education (DivCHED) engages, connects, and collaborates with networks of chemistry educators around the globe. Through these international relationships, the committee seeks to:

    • Exchange ideas on chemistry education research and practices that promote equity and diversity in chemistry education.
    • Support global professional development opportunities for DivCHED members.
    • Strengthen DivCHED’s role as a leader in international chemical education.
  • 2. Committee Composition

    2.1 Membership

    • The committee is composed of a Chair (appointed by the DivCHED Chair) and up to 15 additional members.
    • Members are nominated by the IAC Chair and approved by the DivCHED Chair.
    • Membership should reflect a diversity of backgrounds, institutions, and international interests.

    2.2 Subcommittees

To facilitate the distribution of responsibilities, IAC maintains standing subcommittees:

      • Reports recommendations to the IAC Chair.
    2. International Events & Engagement Subcommittee
      • Coordinates DivCHED’s participation in international events that highlight global collaboration and inclusion in chemistry education.

      • Members run and preside over sessions.

Additional task forces may be created as needed for time-limited projects.

  • 3. Responsibilities

The International Activities Committee is charged with:

    • Host Symposia and Events both within and beyond the United States, ensuring that each event has one veteran IAC member, one new IAC member, and one international DivCHED member as co-organizers.
    • Support International Participation by awarding an annual Travel Award ($2,500) to support ACS DivCHED members in attending international meetings, with preference for junior or underrepresented faculty.
    • Promote Collaborations by initiating and maintaining connections with global chemical education networks and organizations.
    • Disseminate information on international opportunities and events through the DivCHED website, newsletters, and social media.
    • Foster Global Partnerships by sharing updates from international bodies such as IUPAC and the International Council of Associations for Science Education (ICASE).
    • Collaborate with ACS Committees, including the Joint Board–Council Committee on International Activities, to align activities and avoid duplication.
    • Respond to Requests for support from chemical educators abroad, particularly those in developing countries.
