One of my goals as Editor-in-Chief of the Chemical Education Xchange (ChemEd X) is to expand its resources to meet the needs of chemistry educators in higher education.

This expansion began with the hiring of Dr. Colleen Kelley (U. Arizona, retired) as the new Associate Editor for Higher Education. Since April, Colleen has been working on reinstating our ChemEd X Talks series, which will be held at 7pm (Eastern) on the second Tuesday of each month (September thru May). See our Events page for a full listing of the fall speakers and to register for each talk. In addition, our editorial team is working on building out a series of ChemEd X Collections focused on higher education specific content. The Collections currently under development are those focused on introductory/general chemistry, organic chemistry, upper-division chemistry, and teaching assistant training/mentoring.

I’m also very excited to announce a new collaboration between ChemEd X and the Chemistry Education Research (CER) committee. Together we will be building the ChemEd X Methods Resource Hub. The CER committee will be inviting individuals write concise, peer-informed reviews of foundational and emerging methodological resources drawn from education, psychology, sociology, and related fields. The ChemEd X editorial team will work with the CER committee to build out the Resource Hub in order to archive these resources and share them widely. ChemEd X has supported this CER committee initiative by hiring Dr. Elizabeth Day (U. Texas – El Paso) as the new Associate Editor for Chemistry Education Research.
