Introduction
The Board of Publication advances the publication mission of the Division. We support the management of the Journal of Chemical Education via a publication agreement with the American Chemical Society and the operations, finances, and sustainability of the Chemical Education Xchange. These two publications provide national and international reach for chemistry education research and practice.
Information Since Last Report
The Fall 2023 meeting was held in-person with virtual access. Standing reports were given by BoP Treasurer (Frank Torre), JCE EIC (Tom Holme), and ChemEd X EIC (Jon Holmes). Meeting highlights include:
- Board of Associates program restarts at the Spring 2024 national meeting. Five candidates were presented and the selected Board Associates (BA), Tom Kunztleman and Sachel Villafane-Garcia, accepted the invitation to serve as BA for the 2024 calendar year.
- The Operations Manual is under revision. The Chair and Thomas Bussey incorporated all the recent approved changes including the mission statement and sponsorship policy. Other major changes will be discussed.
- Jon Holmes will present to the Board in the Spring 2024 the upcoming changes to the organizational structure of ChemEdX including the specifics concerning the budgetary implications.
- The 100th JCE celebration symposium travel expenses were covered by the Board once the EIC compiled the final expenses.
- Changes to the BoP Chair succession process are under consideration including the suggestion of selecting a Vice-Chair that can formally shadow the outgoing Chair. Discussions will take place in the Spring and if approved, the process will be incorporated in the Operations Manual.
Future Plans
Restructure and organization of ChemEdX is priority.
