From the Secretary, Dan King, Fall 2021

Greetings! I hope everyone has had an enjoyable summer and has been able to experience some type of return to normalcy. While we are not out of the pandemic yet, we have made some progress towards a new normal. That said, while many of us look forward to a Fall term of in-person classes, those classes might be filled with students wearing masks. If we work together and support each other, I am confident that we will all make it through this year.

The Fall ACS Meeting later this month will be our first hybrid meeting. While there are sure to be some bumps in the road, I hope that this paves the way for a regular virtual component of the National Meetings moving forward. I have appreciated the increased accessibility associated with the virtual meetings this past year, and I think that a virtual component will increase are ability to reach a wider audience, especially those who are unable to travel to meetings due to financial and logistical reasons.

During the month of September, the Division election will be held. As we have done for the past couple of years, we will be using Survey Monkey for the election. We hope that it will run as smoothly as it has in the past. Please be sure to let me know if there are any problems with the ballot or the election process. Here is the slate for this year’s election.

Chair-elect: Kimberly (Linenberger) Cortes and Jennifer Lewis

Councilor/Alternate Councilor: Laura Anna, Pamela Clevenger, Sally Mitchell, Amiee L Modic, Rachel Morgan Theall and Stephanie Ryan

Best of luck and thanks to all of the candidates for volunteering to serve the Division. We hope that all members will vote in the election and participate in choosing those who represent our Division.

In addition, we encourage all members who are interested in becoming more involved in the Division to email me (daniel.king@drexel.edu) or the Chairs of CPN (Committee on Personnel and Nominations) (Gail Webster, gwebster@guilford.edu, and Laura Anna, laura.anna@montgomerycollege.edu). We encourage everyone to consider volunteering to serve on one of the Division committees. We would be happy to help you to identify a committee that aligns with your interest and/or expertise. You can also find more information about the various committees on the Division website.

Congratulations to the 5 Division members who have been named as ACS Fellows this year. You will be able to find a list of them on the Division website.

Finally, I will be traveling to Atlanta for my first in-person meeting since 2019. If you will also be in Atlanta, I look forward to seeing you there. If you are not traveling to Atlanta, I hope to see you in Zoom. Either way, please continue to let us know if there is anything the Division can do to help.
