Drawing on expertise in chemical education and a commitment to global collaboration, I am eager to serve the ACS Division of Chemical Education as Secretary/Councilor. As an Associate Professor of Chemistry at Sam Houston State University, I have consistently integrated research, teaching, and assessment practices that elevate the learning and teaching of chemistry.

I earned a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry with honors from the University of Costa Rica and a Ph.D. in Chemistry with an emphasis in Chemical Education from the University of South Florida. At SHSU, I have led curriculum reforms, championed evidence-based teaching strategies, and overseen rigorous assessment of learning outcomes. My research focuses on cultivating scientific skills, creating meaningful learning experiences, and exploring chemistry’s broader societal impact—including the preservation of cultural heritage.

My dedication to advancing chemical education has been recognized through honors such as the 2020 Younger Chemist Award from the ACS Greater Houston Section. I have secured multiple external grants that expanded international collaborations and strengthened educational outreach. Within DivCHED, I contributed to the 2024 Strategic Plan Retreat and continue to serve on the International Activities Committee, where I help foster global partnerships and broaden the Division’s reach.

As Secretary/Councilor, I will harness these experiences to strengthen DivCHED’s mission: advancing inclusive, research-informed educational practices; supporting impactful international collaborations; and addressing emerging challenges in chemical education. I am committed to representing the voices of our members, promoting transparency in decision-making, and ensuring that DivCHED remains a vibrant and forward-looking community. I welcome the opportunity to bring fresh perspectives and collaborative energy to this role, serving our members and the future of chemical education.
