Chemistry Teacher – High School

Independent High School

Do you need anything? Come by my room or shoot me an email – I probably have what you need! After teaching chemistry for 41 years, first in public school and now in an all-girls independent school, chemical education is still my passion. Throughout my teaching career I have also been actively involved in presenting to, and working with, other chemistry teachers through state and national organizations. As an officer of the Associated Chemistry Teachers of Texas (ACT2) and the current President-elect of the American Association of Chemistry Teachers I feel as though I have a good perspective on the needs of pre-college chemistry teachers. In addition to my current role in AACT I have served as regional ambassador and served two terms as the liaison between AACT and the Division of Chemical Education. During my experience as a liaison, I was inspired by a series of conversations regarding chemical education research and the implementation of that research by pre-college teachers; I would love to continue that discussion and take it further!

In addition to my service with ACT2 and AACT I have been active in both my local ACS section and nationally, by presenting workshops, serving on multiple committees (including NCW and CCEW), and promoting chemical education opportunities in my section and region. At the national level I served as the USNCO High School Mentor from 2012-2014 and have presented at several BCCEs. In 2019 I was honored as an ACS Fellow for my work with chemical education. Most recently, I have been involved with the HACH Chemistry Teacher program, as a mentor. As the current Member-at-Large I have edited and streamlined the Operations Manual and have started the process of working on Ops Manuals for various Div Ched committees in an effort to bring all of the manuals to parallel structure, with my goal being to make it easier for people to transition between roles regardless of their committees. I would love the opportunity to see that project through!
