Research-Intensive
I have been an active member of DivCHED since 2011. I had the pleasure to participate in and then chair the Early Career Chemistry Education Scholars sub committee for 7 years where we sought to welcome and provide professional development to those new to the chemistry education research community. Additionally, I have kept tabs with the Chemistry Education Research Committee activities and served the Division as Parliamentarian for a year. My research career has given me exposure to the cultures, challenges, and norms in high school education (my graduate dissertation topic), undergraduate STEM instruction (postdocs), and effective doctoral education in chemistry (current primary research focus). I hope to leverage what I've learned from these communities to best serve the Division and the chemistry education community in this Member-At-Large role.
I would like to use this member-at-large position to advocate for DivCHED resources to provide:
- A welcome invitation to those currently outside of the chemistry education community
- Activities that provide training for the spectrum of educational research (e.g. action research, scholarship of teaching and learning, and chemistry education research)
- Expansion for programs and universities to solicit local chemistry education scholarship expertise
- Continued and expanded guidance throughout ACS on best practices within in all aspects of chemistry education
DivCHED has an incredibly important mission within the ACS and the chemistry education committee and I'm excited to see how I might contribute to that mission.
