These nominees have gone above and beyond in advancing the work of their committees and boards and strengthening the mission of the Division. Their leadership, dedication, and impact exemplify the spirit of service that makes our community thrive.

Alex Grushow, Board of Trustees – Shepherded the ACS Exams Institute Board of Trustees through COVID-19 and multiple challenges over 13 years, most of that time as Chair. Alex advanced chemical education assessment, expanded products, and fostered a welcoming and innovative community. His long service and leadership through the pandemic and emerging AI era have been pivotal for the Division.

Michelle Herridge, Early Career Chemistry Education Scholars Committee – Organized the Graduate Student Symposium for several years and stepped into Chair Succession upon appointment. She launched a virtual professional development program aligned with the Division’s strategic plan to support early career scholars. Michelle’s organization, clear communication, and strong connections across institutions make her an outstanding leader.

Nicole James, Strategic Planning Oversight Committee – Led the Division’s strategic planning process by engaging every committee and attending town halls. She integrated broad feedback and helped committees re-establish roles post-pandemic. Nicole’s superb listening and ability to distill complex discussions have been invaluable for strengthening the Division’s vision and cohesion.

Jonathan (Jon) Gittins, Finance Committee – Brought visibility to two-year college activities as Treasurer of 2YC3 before stepping into the Finance Committee co-chair role. He will assume full leadership in 2026. Jon’s proactive leadership and commitment ensure Finance continues to support the Division’s mission while strengthening ties to two-year colleges.

Dr. Michael Marino, Precollege Committee – Strengthened the Precollege Committee by launching its newsletter to connect with educators nationwide. His consistent participation and thoughtful contributions have advanced outreach and communication. Dr. Marino’s dedication and collaborative spirit make him an invaluable part of the committee.

Christopher Bauer, Committee on Personnel and Nominations – For over eight years, Chris has consistently contributed his expertise and insight to the Committee on Professional Nominations (CPN). His thoughtful participation in deliberations ensures that nominees reflect the Division’s values and mission. His depth of knowledge and perspective make him a trusted and effective voice in the process.

Elizabeth Day, Chemical Education Research Committee – Played a central role in organizing chemistry education symposia at ACS national meetings and BCCE, ensuring deadlines are met and communication flows smoothly. Elizabeth’s contributions have fostered collaboration, increased engagement, and advanced professional development opportunities. She stands out for her exceptional organization, reliability, and collaborative spirit.

Ellen Yezierski, Biennial Conference Committee – Led the working group that identified and implemented new platforms for BCCE, including Ex Ordo and Guidebook, vastly improving the experience for both organizers and attendees. Ellen’s leadership, organizational skill, and ability to guide a team to consensus brought lasting impact to Division conferences.
