DivCHED Awarded $6,400 ACS Communication Improvement Grant

The Division of Chemical Education (DivCHED) has been awarded a $6,400 Communication Improvement Grant (CIG) through the American Chemical Society’s Division Innovative Project Grant (IPG) program. Lead by Heather Ryan (DivCHED Executive Assistant ) and 2026 Chair Gina Frey, the project supports a strategic initiative to strengthen the Division’s digital communication infrastructure.

This award represents a targeted investment in building DivCHED’s long-term communication capacity.  Working in conjunction with the Chair Succession and Public Relations Committee, the project will focus on strengthening the Division’s website content, social media presence, email communications, accessibility practices, and overall digital engagement strategy.

A central component of the grant is professional development and strategic consulting to enhance DivCHED’s in-house expertise. Heather Ryan, will complete targeted training in digital marketing, analytics, branding, and strategic communication, while working alongside an external marketing consultant to develop and implement an integrated communication plan. This approach ensures that DivCHED builds sustainable internal capacity rather than relying solely on external support.

The project also includes software enhancements and an accessibility and inclusivity audit to ensure alignment with ACS priorities to create a more inclusive and accessible digital presence for members.

By investing in communication infrastructure and professional development, DivCHED is taking an important step toward more effectively engaging educators, researchers, and future members while advancing its mission to support and improve chemistry education for all.
