We have been busy with our participation in the upcoming ACS Spring 2026 meeting in Atlanta. The committee has contributed with a symposium on greening laboratory courses for general chemistry. We will also be on hand to help during Teacher’s Day at this meeting.
July will bring us to BCCE 2026 in Madison Wisconsin which will showcase our current committee members at a Birds of a Feather event. We hope to encourage volunteers to join us as committee members.
We have also contributed with symposiums for the ACS Fall 2026 next August titled “Bridging the Gap: From Educational Research to High School Classroom Practice.” And few more for Teacher’s Day in collaboration with the American Association of Chemistry Teachers (AACT), Chemistry and Art, Students with Disabilities in the Chemistry Classroom, and Laboratory Safety in High School Chemistry courses.
Finally, I would like to add a personal note regarding my attendance at the Leadership Institute Workshops this past January. It was an eye-opening experience. I only knew the ACS that directly supported me throughout my career as a chemist and as chemical educator. The event showed me how incredibly large the ACS is as an organization and how it has thrived throughout its 150 years, mostly due to the work of infinite number of volunteers, from undergraduates to CEOs of companies all over. It was amazing to meet leaders of the many committees and divisions at this event. We were encouraged to collaborate with other divisions while I was there. For our pre-college educators, the Division of Professional Relations seems closer to what our teachers know, which includes chemist with disabilities, women chemists, younger chemists, to mention a few. I am very excited to explore the possibilities ahead.
Hope to see you at one or all the meetings coming up!
