The Committee on Computing in Chemical Education (CCCE) seeks to support and encourage the development, implementation, and assessment of computing technologies in Chemical Education. Note: our name was changed slightly to better emphasize our focus on emerging computing technologies and software used in chemical education since computers are widely used in today’s educational landscape. The committee contributes to symposia and workshops at ACS Meetings and oversee online conferences in the Chemical Sciences (ConfChem) and Online Chemistry Classes (OLCC).
- At the Spring 2025 ACS Meeting in San Diego, CA
- CCCE will be holding a symposium on AI in Higher Education. The symposium will take place on Wednesday, March 26th, from 8am-12 noon, Room 5A. AI in HE session information.
- In collaboration with the divisions of Chemical Education (CHED), Chemical Information (CINF), and Computers in Chemistry (COMP) we will be holding a session on Cheminformatics Education Resources to be held on Sunday, March 23rd, from 5 pm – 8 pm. Rm 2. ChemInformatics Session information.
- We are currently developing a new OLCC on Data Chemistry and Machine Learning to be offered in Fall 2025 and Spring 2026 semesters. For more information on contributing to this project or offering this course at your institution please contact Robert Belford, rebelford@ualr.edu. Note: The CCCE will be celebrating 30 yrs of OLCCs in the coming year.
- We are currently working on preparing a book or series on Best Practices for Use of AI in Chemistry Education. Please contact Derek Behmke, behmked@vcu.edu for more information.
- We will like to organize a symposium on VR tools in chemistry education for the Biennial Conference on Chemical Education (BCCE) 2026. Please contact Karen Fortune, ckfortune@uh.edu for more information.
- We have been hosting ConfChems since 1993, and asynchronous online discussions on preprints related to Chemical Education in the CCCE Newsletter since 1984. Please contact Jonathan Guthow, gutow@uwosh.edu, to contribute or participate in the discussions.
- The following are our Committee members:
