Introduction
Our committee’s purpose is to nominate DivCHED members for committee service and leadership opportunities within the Division. We seek to be inclusive of all members including chemical education practitioners and researchers across all levels of institutions. The committee tries to match the skills, experiences, and interests of individuals to service opportunities within the division.
Information Since Last Report
- CPN developed nominations for 2025-2027 Board of Publication and 2025-2027 Board of Trustees and will present those nominees to ExComm at the Fall 2024 meeting.
- The updated self-nominations form on the website was instituted for members to either self-nominate or nominate colleagues. Nominations can be for committee appointments, or elected leadership and/or board appointments.
- Two posters and numerous flyers were prepared for the 2024 Biennial Conference for Chemical Education to promote “Get-Involved” during the symposium: Inside the Division of Chemical Education.
- A big thank you to Heather Johnson for helping us with bullet points one, two, and three, above!
Future Plans
- Blain Mamiya has moved into the Chair role for the CPN.
- Search for Co-chair continues.
- Fall 2024: CPN will develop slates of candidates for any vacant Board positions.
- CPN will continue to ask that the Division make regular social media posts throughout the year advertising the nomination form as a way to get more members involved in service opportunities.
- CPN will request to Heather Johnson to send CPN a regular download of nomination form submissions based on the recommended deadlines below:
- Elected leadership positions: January 15 (CPN meeting in early Feb)
- Board appointments: June 15 (CPN meeting early July)
- Committee interest: September 15 (CPN meeting early October)
- Future recommendations for the Division Committee appointment process:
- Continue Committee Chair survey piloted in 2024 to inform reappointment process and to gather input on needs/expertise/skills for new appointments that will benefit the work of the committee.
- Form a sub-committee within CPN tasked with making committee appointments recommendations.
- Heather Johnson has proposed a platform to streamline the invitation and acceptance process for committee appointments.
Other
- CPN continues to advise other Division committees to consider and develop chair succession planning within each committee to ensure smooth transition and continuity of committee work.
- CPN continues to support ExComm with the Strategic Plan implementation. Participation in the areas of best fit.
- Also, this was in our last consent agenda, and it still requires attention:
- CPN would like for ExComm to consider working with our committee (and perhaps other committees) to find intentional pathways for membership engagement. Not only would we like to find ways to "lift members up" through the division, but we would also like to have more formalized ways to broaden membership participation so that we are being more intentional about DEIR in the organization.
