At Spring 2025 ACS hosted the following activities:
- Organized the Chemistry Education Research Graduate Student Symposia. The symposia hosted 12 graduate speakers, 5 undergraduate speakers, and allowed 3 first time presiders to gain experience presiding over a symposium session.
- Organized a social event for 13 scholars spanning grad school, post doc, and early career levels.
- Sent a committee member to the DivCHED social hour and SciMix to represent our committee
Since then, our committee along with the Strategy Planning Committee Group 2 has organized a Graduate Student and Postdoctoral Development (GSPD) Conference. The event will be a three-day virtual conference including nearly 50 grad students and postdocs. The sessions will focus on professional development in crafting job application materials, navigating academic responsibilities, sharing CER research amongst participants in a poster session, and networking with conference attendees. In addition to the sessions run by leaders in our field, the participants will have the opportunity to engage with a panel of mentors in different CER career paths and beyond academia. The event will be held on July 28-July 30 on Zoom. We were invited to present a short summary of this event at the Aug 16 ExComm meeting.
Once the GSPD conference is over, we will discuss future steps for our committee in the area of fostering professional development in our field.
Our committee was originally planning to organize and host the Chemistry Education Research Graduate Student Symposia at the Fall 2025 ACS meeting. We have collaborated to consolidate our undergraduate and graduate student submissions into CERC's CER symposia.
$350 allocated for social/networking event at Spring 2025 ACS. These funds were used but I do not know the full extent. These reimbursements were submitted by Melissa Collini in March/April 2025.
We used this funding to host 13 scholars spanning grad school, post doc, and early career levels. These funds covered light appetizers and gratuity for this event.
We were able to connect 13 scholars directly to our committee and DivCHED and to each other.
