The Pre-College Committee, continued with a series of activities that began in January 2025. Our focus is on GOAL 3 in the Division's Strategic Plan: Identifying & Communicating Value. All our efforts are catered to our pre-college educator members.
We realized the important role that AACT has as a support entity to our educators in K-12 grades, yet we would like to increase the awareness about the Division of Chemical Education's role as an additional support to them. We were very pleased to see that AACT members have an opt-in to become ACS members for a year. We would like for them to also join the Division of Chemical Education.
As a first step, we thought of reaching out through a newsletter for teachers to get excited about what the Division can provide.
We held two virtual meetings, one in March, another in May, and the Chair completed a series of tasks in June with the input of the committee members. The documents with the details of each meeting are attached to this report.
March 23, 2025
- Completion of a document (PowerPoint format) that gathered multiple resources within the ACS and the Division of Chemical Education, specifically for pre-college educators.
- Draft of Pre-College Committee Newsletter pointing out our mission, who we are, and what we do to support our members. Contains information on meetings and conferences for planning purposes (with links to reach the sites). The idea was to have a quick glance at what is happening in the Division that concerns our pre-college educators
May 22, 2025
- Reflections on the school year were shared among the members. ( Our committee's educators teach at the university, college, and high school institutions. Their comments are incredibly valuable as a snapshot of what our pre-college educators may reflect on. It is helpful to us to come up with ideas on future projects to help the membership).
- We plan to participate in the ChemEd 2025 Conference in July. The opportunity to have an event at the conference was made possible thanks to the assistance of Ryan Johnson, the Chair of the conference.
- A survey will be put together for pre-college educators to be posted in the AACT newsletter and , hopefully, in the Division website as well.

- Birds of a Feather Event for the Pre-College Committee at the CHEMED 2025 Conference in July 2025, is scheduled for Monday, July 21, 12:15-12:45 PM
Immediate Plans
Pre-College Committee Hybrid Meeting - July: to be held during the Birds of a Feather Event, July 21, 12:15-12:30 PM.
- The main purpose of the event is to let attendees know of opportunities to serve in the committee and to join the Division of Chemical Education.
Pre-College Committee Virtual Meeting August: to be held during the ACS Fall Conference 2025. Date/Time: TBD.
- Discuss ways to involve new educators in the Division's activities through sharing best practices at local meetings and national conferences
- Possible proposal for a special project (see June summary attachment)
