Identifies worthy individuals who have dedicated years of valuable service to DivCHED.
I would like to take this opportunity to express my deepest appreciation to Anna Wilson for her years of dedicated leadership on the Recognition Committee. Anna has provided exceptional service to the Division of Chemical Education, demonstrating remarkable knowledge, leadership, and generosity. Her commitment to this work has been invaluable, and I extend my sincere gratitude for her tireless efforts on behalf of the Division and the Recognition Committee.
In December, the Chair Succession of the Division requested that all committees establish a chair succession plan or adopt a chair/co-chair leadership model. The Recognition Committee did not develop such a plan, and as a result, I agreed to serve as interim chair until a current committee member could assume the role. After reaching out to the committee roster, it became clear that no current members were able to step into the chair position.
Moving forward, there are two potential options for the committee’s structure:
- Appoint new members with an interest in leadership, or
- Merge the Recognition Committee with the Passer Award Committee, which would require approval from ExComm. A task force has been convened to evaluate this potential merger.
In the meantime, we continue to oversee the nomination process for the Spring 2025 Service Award, with nominations due February 21, 2025.
In the coming weeks, the Recognition Committee will review nominations for the Spring 2025 Service Award. The recipient will be announced at the DivCHED Social during the ACS Spring National Meeting (date and time to be determined, traditionally held on the first Sunday of the conference). The award winner will be invited to attend the reception to formally accept the honor.
