Greetings from the COCTYC!
The Committee on Chemistry in the Two-Year Colleges is excited to share our new vision, mission and goals for the Two-Year College Chemistry Consortium (2YC3):
- Vision: Advance first- and second- year college chemistry education
- Mission: Build community, support professional development and advocate for first and second-year college chemistry faculty
- Goals: Goal #1 – Build Community; Goal #2 – Professional Development; Goal #3 - Advocate
Our vision and mission reach a broader group of chemistry educators across the first and second years of college chemistry education and we welcome all that engage in that space! The COCTYC Executive Board voted to adopt new by-laws, policies and procedures governing the organization of 2YC3 that will build and expand leadership capacity and member involvement. Key structural changes include:
- Expands the Executive Board to 15 members (currently 9), elected by 2YC3 general membership.
- The Executive Board will select the roles of Chair, Secretary, Membership Coordinator and Committee Chairs (up to 7). Treasurer and Webmaster roles will be appointed by the Board.
- The COCTYC Chair will be the DivCHED representative.
Permanent committees will be established to align with the goals of 2YC3:
- Advocation Committee
- In-Person Conference Committee
- Webinar Conference Committee
- Communications and Community Committee
- Strategic Planning Committee
We are excited to announce our return to in-person meetings with the 225th 2YC3 Conference, May 30-31, 2025, hosted by Johnson County Community College in Overlook Park, Kansas. The conference theme “Using High Impact Practices to Empower Chemistry Students” will bring together chemical educators with a focus on the first two years of college chemistry.
