The Committee on Chemistry in Two-Year Colleges (COCTYC) is the executive committee governing the Two-Year College Chemistry Consortium, 2YC3. 2YC3 is an external membership organization that is primarily charged with enhancing student learning by providing a national forum for educators teaching in the first two years of college chemistry. The COCTYC currently facilitates 2YC3 goals by coordinating professional development conferences, webinars, and community forums while also publishing newsletters and providing online resources.
Currently the board has a proposed basic structure of our new structure that was developed in response to our SPR. We hope to finalize and adopt our new plan by the end of Fall Semester.
5 members of the COCTYC executive committee were able to attend the BCCE 2024. We had a strong showing at our Birds of a Feather session at the BCCE 2024. This resulted in a number of new members and at least 22 members interested in a leadership role in our new structure once it is solidified. We are excited about our organization’s future.
Our Friday Webinars will begin again this Fall and continue on into the Spring. We plan to continue these even as we move back to in-person conferences. Our first post-COVID in-person conference is now planned for Johnson County Community College May 30-31, 2025 in Lawrence Kansas. We are hopeful to have a number of small travel awards to kick start our first in-person meeting since 2019. We are exploring options for a Fall 2025 Meeting near Washington DC to coincide with the Fall 2025 ACS meeting.
2YC3’s revenue model is primarily membership driven. Current memberships year to date have risen since the BCCE 2024 conference. We are addressing our revenue model along with our membership structure as a result of the strategic planning retreat.
